Residency: Week 8

There were a few important “life” type appointments that took me away from the studio this week. But things are wrapped up and my plate/my mind now has a little more capacity.

I threw my first double walled vessel - intentions on using that as a tester for my final project, and my first successful-ish lidded vessel!

I also attempted taller necks (bottle necks) on my own after realizing my final project involves one, and I’m not super experienced with throwing forms with taller necks. After stubbornly attempting to figure it out and realizing that time is most definitely of the essence, I reached out to ask for guidance/help - something I am not used to doing. This residency is not only fostering my growth as an artist, but also finally being in a safe space surrounded by like-minded artists, I feel like I can emerge from my shell to grow as a human creature a bit more. (Thank you @alterworkstudios and @justinmullady_ for supporting my growth and speeding up the learning curve for me!)

There is a final project in mind, I continue to brainstorm/re-brainstorm the steps I need to achieve to get there (and I will). One thing that I need to come to terms with though, is that as much as I want to relief carve every single thing I create - I realistically can’t due to my timeline. So, as a compromise, I will take the opportunity to practice Mishima :)

Rolling into Week 9, I will face my glazing “fears”. Start relief carving one of the larger composites, brainstorm a bottleneck project, and consider throwing lil glaze testers using the main clay body for my final project.
